Being a full-time caregiver can be a taxing job. There is no 9-5 schedule. It can be emotionally and physically exhausting. It can take over your life and cut into time you previously spent with friends and enjoying hobbies. Yet in spite of the challenges, caregiver happiness is possible to achieve!
But being a full-time caregiver is incredibly rewarding, and it’s important to focus on the positives to keep a happier mindset. That is why we’ve put together these 7 Rules for Caregiver Happiness, to remind ourselves to stay positive:
- Know your why.
As with everything we do in life, it is vital to know what motivates us. Why are you doing this? - Keep active.
An active body is key to a peaceful and happy mind. Even when you think you don’t want to, get at least 30 minutes each day of exercise. Aside from keeping you fit and healthy, it will lead to less stress and act as an emotional outlet. - Laugh often.
Laughter is the best medicine – and make sure you take your dosage every day! - Keep learning.
Maintain an active and engaged mind by teaching yourself new things. Try new skills whenever you can. - Make time for friends.
Our friends are the most important people to us. They take care of us, even without you asking. Make time to nurture the relationships in your life. - Stay positive.
It’s not always easy to see the glass half-full, but when we do it makes everything a little bit sunnier and easier to cope with. - Be grateful.
You have much to be grateful for. Make a list of the things that you are most grateful for, and keep it for when you need a reminder.
