Slow Mental Decline by Staying Healthy

New research has revealed compelling findings for young seniors who maintain good overall health. A study based in Sweden, using a control group, monitored adults aged 60 to 77 over a two-year period while they regularly performed exercise, healthy eating, and cognitive training exercises. Using the Neuropsychological Test Battery, after only two years the test group showed results 25% better than the control group.

The findings of this study – considered to be one of the first of its size to use a control group – are a great reinforcement to advice that has been given out for years: that overall health contributes to brain health.

While finding the link to dementia continues elude the medical research community, knowing that actively pursuing a healthy lifestyle can slow cognitive decline is a great encouragement for all adults concerned about ageing.
